Privacy Policy
TryCoax is built by people who understand that the data in this app — medication logs, daily functioning, focus patterns — is among the most sensitive data a consumer app can hold. This policy is a product feature, not a compliance afterthought.
The short version
- Almost everything you put into TryCoax stays on your phone.
- There is no account with a name or email. When a feature needs our server, TryCoax signs in with an anonymous id.
- Medication data, check-ins and anything you type are never sent to analytics, ad networks or anyone who sells data. We have no ads.
- Teens (13–17) can use TryCoax. Children under 13 cannot.
What stays on your device
Stored only on your phone, never sent to us:
- Session history (start time, duration, intention, rating)
- Captured items, tasks and breakdown steps
- Routine definitions, step sequences and reminder times
- Medication names, doses and taken times
- Daily check-in scores (energy, focus, sleep)
- Companion level, XP and preferences
- App settings and notification preferences
- Your age band (see "Teens and children")
What leaves your device, and why
Each of these happens only when you use the feature.
| Feature | What is sent | Where it goes |
|---|---|---|
| Any online feature (rooms, pairing, AI breakdown, parent link) | An anonymous id, created on first use. No name, email or phone number | Our server (Supabase) |
| Bot check at sign-in | A one-time anti-abuse token from your device | Cloudflare Turnstile |
| Focus rooms | An abstract avatar, your session length and when you joined. Not stored: when you leave, it's gone, and we don't log who was in a room with whom | Our server, live only |
| Paired sessions | An abstract avatar, session length and a work category picked from a fixed list. Your intention text never leaves your phone | Our server |
| AI task breakdown | The task text you asked to break down, and a count of how many breakdowns you used today | Our server, then our AI provider (Anthropic) |
| Parent link (teens only, see below) | Only what the teen switches on: that a focus session happened and how long, a finished routine's name, that meds were taken. Never task text or medication names | Our server, readable only by the linked parent |
| Subscriptions | Your anonymous id as the subscriber id, purchase events, and on our server only whether and until when your plan runs | RevenueCat, Apple or Google |
| Product analytics | Usage events such as "session completed" or "paywall opened", tied to a random device id. Never anything you typed, never anything about medication | PostHog |
| Crash reports | Device model, OS version and the technical trace of the crash | Sentry |
| Voice capture | What you say, turned into text by your phone's speech recogniser. TryCoax receives only the text | Apple or Google, under their speech-recognition terms |
AI breakdown in detail. The request contains only the task text. It never includes medication data, check-ins, session history or any other personal data. Our AI provider processes it under terms that do not allow training on it. You can turn AI breakdown off in Settings and use the manual step editor or the built-in step bank instead.
Calendar. If you allow calendar access, TryCoax reads and writes events on your phone. Calendar data isn't sent to us.
Never collected, under any circumstances:
- Your real name, email or phone number (unless you give them to us for support)
- Location
- Contacts
- Browsing history
- Data from other apps
No advertising SDKs. No data sale. Ever.
Teens and children
TryCoax asks for your birth month and year once, during setup. We keep only whether you are a teen (13–17) or an adult. Your birth date is not stored and is not sent anywhere.
- Under 13: TryCoax stops at setup and nothing is stored. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13. If you think a child under 13 has used TryCoax, email [email protected] and we will delete anything we hold.
- Teens: AI breakdown starts off. To turn it on, the app asks whether a parent has said yes, and records when that was answered.
- Parent link: A teen can choose to share a few moments of their day with one parent. The teen starts it with a 6-digit code that lasts 15 minutes, and chooses what is shared: focus sessions, finished routines, meds taken. Each is off until the teen turns it on. Shared moments are kept for 7 days. Either side can unlink at any time, and unlinking deletes everything that was shared. The parent's name for the teen stays on the parent's phone.
How long we keep server data
- Room presence: only while you're in the room.
- Parent-link moments: 7 days, or until unlinked.
- Link codes: 15 minutes.
- AI breakdown usage counts: only as long as needed to enforce the daily limits.
- Anonymous account: until you delete your data, or 30 days after we receive a deletion request.
Your rights
- Export: Settings → Export my data produces a complete JSON file of everything on your phone.
- Delete: Settings → Delete all data removes everything from your phone immediately. Server-side data tied to your anonymous id is deleted within 30 days. Email [email protected] if you want it gone sooner.
- Offline use: You can use TryCoax without any online feature. Then nothing leaves your phone except crash reports and analytics, as described above.
Depending on where you live (for example the EU, UK or California), you may have further rights to access, correct or object to processing of your data. Email [email protected] and we will respond within 30 days.
Changes
We will tell you in the app before any material change to this policy. The previous version will stay available.
